Alison Fox
MSc. BACP Accred. Grad Dip ION. BANT.
I am a holistic mental health practitioner with over 20 years’ experience working with children and adults across private practice, the charity sector, and the NHS. I am dual qualified in Psychotherapy and Integrative Functional Nutrition, with additional training in nutritional psychiatry, genomic analysis, and the gut microbiome.

I specialise in personalised support for more complex mental health difficulties, especially where diet, gut health, hormones, inflammation, or nutrient status are part of the picture. Using an approach that combines psychotherapy, functional medicine, nutritional psychiatry, and nutrigenomics, I take time to consider your whole health story and offer support tailored to your individual needs.

This approach can be particularly helpful if you are experiencing:

-
Long-term low mood or depression
-
Significant anxiety, or panic
-
OCD
-
Support with ADHD or Autism related challenges
-
Eating disorders
-
Mental health difficulties with gut symptoms, hormonal changes, or a poor or restricted diet

What is Functional Nutrition for Mental Health?

Also called Integrative Psychiatry, this is a growing, evidence-based approach to mental health, which recognising that what we eat, as well as our nutritional status, gut health, immune health and metabolic health, links directly to our mental wellbeing and cognitive function. It offers personalised treatment for conditions such as depression, anxiety, OCD and ADHD, that are often shaped by a complex mix of psychological, nutritional and physiological factors.

Conventional mental health support tends to focus on talking therapy and/or the prescription of antidepressant medication. While this can be helpful for some, it does not address the wider range of factors that we now know can contribute to mental health difficulties, nor does it address the long-term side effects and dependency that can come from antidepressant use.

As our understanding of this mind-body connection grows, more clients are looking for support that offers natural non-toxic methods to address their difficulties. Rather than focusing solely on symptoms, Integrative Psychiatry draws on a detailed case history, symptom analysis and (where appropriate) functional tests to identify the possible underlying drivers. It then addresses these through tailored health plans designed specific to your unique needs which include targeted nutritional/diet recommendations, lifestyle changes and nutritional support through supplementation.

Is this right for me?

This may be a good fit if you have tried standard psychological therapy but feel you have reached a plateau, or if you would like a broader approach alongside long-term medication. Many people find they are managing not only mental health symptoms, but also fatigue, gut issues, persistent stress, or “unexplained” anxiety, and suspect these may be connected.
